Most employees who began working at Air Canada after 1970 likely started when the schedule was changed from 5 & 2 to 6 & 3. The new schedule was widely accepted due to the fact that junior customer service agents no longer had to work weekends during the summer months unless they were particularly adept at ingratiating themselves with their superiors. The shift change was initially proposed by Ron Houston and required some effort to implement. However, once the new system was in place, staff working on the operations were able to simply mutually agree and sign their names in a shift change book to secure the desired schedule. A shift change form was later introduced as a result of some employees failing to honor their commitments, which caused some inconvenience for the majority of staff. The form was eventually accepted to prevent the shift change privilege from being revoked for the entire Station Services department.
