The OZone Standoff: A Tale of Perseverance and Resilience

Wayne Gates had sent me a story a few years back, and I’d like to share it here. He recounts a time when he and some managers tried to prevent him from getting his first bid job at the OZone. Despite waiting well past the agreed-upon temporary or backfill period, he staged a sit-in in a manager’s office who threatened to have him removed by the RCMP. However, the Shop Committee Chairman, Mr. Jim McWilliams, resolved the situation. The following Monday, Wayne reported to work at the OZone and worked there for a couple of years. He remembers it as a great place to work without any hassle from the main line, where he just did his job, went home, and collected his paycheck on payday. A true story.
