“The George Hanson Mulligan Open: A Golf Tournament in Memory of a Beloved Lead Station Attendant”

The George Hanson Mulligan Open took place on June 12, 1980 at the Oakville Golf Course. The event was formerly known as the A Cycle Baggage Tourney, and that year it attracted a larger crowd than usual. A total of 40 golfers participated in the tournament, competing for four awards: top overall score, closest to the pin, longest drive, and putting contest winner.

Mrs. Sylvia Hanson, the wife of the late George Hanson, donated a trophy for the tournament in honor of her husband, who had been a well-liked lead station attendant. Her sons, Dean and Terry, were present to present the trophy to the overall winner of the tournament, Bob Legault. Legault shot a 71 to capture the title. The other winners were Pete Brasier, who won the award for being closest to the hole, Sean Carnahan for longest drive, and Nandy Palumbo for winning the putting contest.

The tournament was organized by ramp agents Stu Clare and Scott Kohen, with the help of Mike Trauzzi. They did a great job putting together the event and providing excellent prizes. After the tournament, an auction was held, which raised a total of $800 for Dreams Take Flight.

The day ended with a gathering at the Abbey Arms Pub in Oakville, where the participants and attendees enjoyed a few pints and shared fond memories of George Hanson.
