The Moose-Stopper: The Diamond Dogs’ Unlikely Victory

Once upon a time, in the early 90s, there was a baseball league at the airport. One team, in particular, was called the Diamond Dogs. They were a rag-tag group of players who had a love for the game but not much talent to show for it.

Their season was not off to a great start. In fact, they had only won one game out of twenty-five. But they were determined to turn things around.

One day, they were playing against the Cargo team at Max Ward Park. The game was tied in the bottom of the ninth inning and it was looking like it was going to go into extra innings. But just as the Diamond Dogs were getting ready to bat, something unexpected happened.

A moose ran onto the field! The Cargo team, who were mostly made up of city slickers, panicked and ran to their cars. But not the Diamond Dogs. They were made of tougher stuff.

Peter, the team’s catcher, was quick to react. He grabbed his hunting rifle and shot the moose. The moose went down with a thud and the Diamond Dogs were declared the winners by default.

The rest of the team cheered and celebrated as Pete dragged the moose off the field. He had to throw the beast in the back of his truck and make the call to book off the rest of the day at work.

The Diamond Dogs’ big three players, Pete, Care Bear and Cal, were hailed as heroes for their bravery and quick thinking. They may have only won one game that year, but it was a win that they would never forget.
