One day, three retired station attendants and best of buddies named Mike “Mannix” O’Conner, Stuart “Chickenhawk” Clare and Stephen Banks entered a draw and each of them won tickets to see the The Johnstown Chiefs featuring the infamous “Hanson Brothers” at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga. They had great tickets, front row right behind the Chiefs bench.
As they made their way to the arena and took to their seats, the P.A. announcer said that there will be a short delay to the start of the game. As they were sitting there and having a few beers, they could see the coach on the bench pacing up and down nervously. All of a sudden, the coach turned around and was facing the our boys and he couldn’t stop staring at them. In fact, he was staring at them for quite some time.
The coach made his way to see and talk to Mike, Stuart and Stephen and had asked them a question. “The coach asked them if they can skate”. Chickenhawk yelled at him and said “Bawwwwkkkkk Of course we can, we’re Canadian, us Canucks we all can skate” Well the coach explained to the boys, listen we got a problem, I couldn’t stop staring at you guys, because did anyone ever tell you guys you all have an uncanny resemblance to the Hanson bros? He continued to tell them that the team went to get something to eat before they came to the arena and they stopped at White Castle Hamburger joint. and all three of them got food poisoning and can not play the game. He asked them if they can come to the dressing room and suit up for the game,
Well Mike said, well sure we can help out but we don’t have long hair like they do! Coach said don’t worry about it, do you think the Hanson brothers after all these years still have hair? They all wear wigs, all you have to do is wear the wigs, put on the glasses and go out there and have some fun and play the game! or we going to have to cancel the game. How about it boys? are you in?
The rest was history! and the boys had so much fun and fulfilled a dream come true! the Hanson bros for a day!! They went on to play the game and it was a blast. They even scored a goal and the crowd went wild! They will always remember the time they got to play as the Hanson brothers and help out their favorite hockey team in a time of need. It was a day they will never forget!
